Wow this one was a wild ride. It stared out as a fairly straightforward daily render. As I was adding more detail I decided I needed to see this as a 4K Raytraced image. The realtime engine just wasn't cutting it. Unfortunately, every time I tried to render it, it would get maybe halfway through and just crash (hence this post is so late). So I stripped away alot of the detail and still. CRASH. Lower resolutions worked fine and I personally felt that this should work. So I did the unthinkable, I used EXPERIMENTAL FEATURES to render it. Switched from CUDA to OPTIX and holy cow. I have an RTX 2060 SUPER, so not even the highest end RTX card. Once I enabled OPTIX I was able to quadruple the samples without sacrificing render time (in completed in less time than the others took to crash). The CPU usage and memory usage was cut by 60%! So how I see it, is that I can make the upcoming renders at least 50% more intensive without a crash.
